In Memory of My Special Dog – RIP March 11, 2011.

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside… for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements… and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth… though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land… for you are my god… and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest…and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

What a sweet looking dog–I am so sorry for your loss. This is tribute you found says it so well. I know the one thing that has helped me with the loss of my beloved pets is the imagery of the rainbow bridge. May your heart find some peace in good time, Nancy

Lynne I don’t know you but my heart goes out to you. He’s a beautiful dog and I’m sure he had a wonderful life with you but no matter what anyone says, it’s so very, very difficult to come to terms with such a loss. I send you my heartfelt condolences, I do understand what you’re going through.

    • Dear Louise,
You kind words mean so much to me. Dogs are perfect bridges for bringing strangers together. And knowing that you understand, I presume you too have lost a beloved pet.

      Hugs to you!

  3. robena grant says:

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear of Rogan’s passing. I know he spent his life with you surrounded by love and attention, and always know that he knew he was one helluva lucky dog.
    Big hugs.

    • Oh, Roben, Rogan’s last night was spent in horrible pain. I felt helpless for him, and we knew it was time to let him go. That damn renal mass hemorrhaged. Horrible, horrible.

He was noble until his last breath.

Bill and I are completely undone over his loss.
Give your beautiful Niki an extra hug for me tonight.

Lynne I was so sorry to read about the loss of your beautiful dog. I know how you must feel with this loving hole in your life snd yet knowing that you did the kindest (for him) and hardest (for you) thing of all. We lost our 17 year old oldest cat this week and although he was tiny, it’s a big hole he leaves behind.

But we were both so lucky to have had them in our lives

    Hugs of understanding and sympathy

    • Dear Kate,
Thank you so much for you comments. I am honored that you read this little memorial about my dear dog. And I am sending hugs to you for your recent loss. I still fondly remember our other pets, and will never ever forget my sweet, sweet boy.

Right now, everything reminds me of him. It’s tough.

hugs coming your way, too –
