January Redo 2013

(This blog first appeared at Love is the Best Medicine 1/4/13)

I like to begin my year thinking positive, especially when I look at my writing schedule and quiver.  Why is it always so hard to get those first three chapters written? Will I be able to pull this story off?

When those negative doubts begin, I push them under and focus on more positive and practical things.

Here are a few favorite quotes from other far more famous authors that help me through my fears:

“There’s no such thing as a born writer.  It’s a skill you’ve got to learn.  You’ve got to write X number of words before you can write anything that can be published, but nobody is able to tell you how many words that is.  You will know when you get there, but you don’t know how long it will take.”  Larry Brown

In this day and age of self-publishing, this quote may seem out of date.  What do you think?

How about this quote about failure from Ray Bradbury: “You fail only if you stop writing.”

Here’s a true quote about the “RULES” of writing from another great author:  “There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.” W. Somerset Maugham

Sometimes the best advice comes from people you’d least expect.  For instance, Calvin Coolidge, (the 30th U.S. President 1923-1929) has a place at my computer monitor with this quote: “Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not, nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.  Genius will not, unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.  Education alone will not, the world is full of educated derelicts.  Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”

Do you have a favorite quote to help you through tough times?  Do share, I need all the help I can get.

My current book,  Too Close for Comfort is a second chance at romance story featuring over-forty characters, some laughs and tears. TooCloseForComfort_w6829_300

    I don’t have a favorite quote. Oh, yes I do. : )
The wisest follow their own direction: Euripides.
I like it because we all know that when we have a problem/worry/situation we often need to talk about it and we weigh the input from others but we always end up doing what we intended in the first place. *grin*

  2. Ha ha, Robena – that exact thing has gotten me into more trouble in life! I’m terrible with maps, too. 🙂

    Thanks for reading and commenting.

Love those quotes! So very aggravatingly appropriate!
Wish I had one I could remember. I’m terrible at that. Although…
Think it. Write it. Sell it. comes to mind… but that’s cheating. LOL.

    • Think it. Write it. Sell it. is a darn good quote, and you did! Yay.

Thanks for stopping by, reading and commenting.

Cute picture of the author and editor, eh?
